Random pictures from last week....

We caught and armadillo that has been living under our deck and tearing up our yard. A week before that, we caught a possum.

First ferris wheel ride for Patrick.

Happy baby!

In this picture, Nicholas is wearing one of Chuck's baby outfits.

Jehovah & the Knocking Bird

My brother, Russell, told me a few days ago that he thought he was ready to hold Nicholas for the first time. This has yet to happen, but I am sure it will soon. If not, Nicholas will probably be able to hold Russell as he is getting so big. Russell also told me of a cute conversation between himself, Nicholas & Patrick yesterday. Russell was making his usual animal sounds and bird noises to Nicholas in hopes of a smile and as he told it, Nicholas was looking at him as if to ask, "Are you ok?" Somehow the subject of mockingbirds came up, and Patrick said "oh, you mean like this..." (and he knocked on the coffee table). Russell then proceeded to explain mockingbird not knocking bird. Fast forward to this morning 11am, there is a knock on my door. Two very tall men in suits (they honestly looked like they were from the FBI) were outside and they politely asked "Is Chuck home?". I told them that he was at work, and they explained that they were Bible students that wanted to visit with him. They asked if they could stop back by this weekend and not knowing what to say, I said "ok". I called Chuck at work to tell him of his new friends and he said "Oh, I guess I was a little too friendly to that guy the other day". We recently had a conversation about how much better it is to be nice than nasty, but here is my delima. How do you politely tell a knocking bird that you have a home church (he already told the man) and do understand what the Bible really says (their pamplet), but yet get across a message that they need to go away. Too be nasty would not be setting forth a very good Christian example and would probably convince them even more that they need to save me. But to be nice....well, Chuck was too nice and they came back in two instead of one and looked as if they were ready to take him away. They will be coming by again this weekend, and I will answer the door. Any suggestions?

Where were you?

I will never forget that day….

I was working for a dentist. A woman I worked with came in from her morning commute telling of what she had heard on the radio. A plane had struck the WTC. We immediately changed all of the TVs in the oporatories over to news and watched in horror as a second plane struck the WTC. My office manager began to cry. She said “My baby is going to war.” Her son was in college at the time and she assumed there would be a draft. We all stood there speechless as we watched the morning unfold. We all watched in horror as people jumped hand in hand from the buildings. We watched the people on top of the roofs waving desperately for rescue. We saw the footage of the aftermath of the plane that hit the pentagon and wondered what was next. Then we heard of flight 93. It all happened so fast. I wondered if this was the end…if Jesus was coming. Then the towers crumbled and were gone. I cried for the people that were so frightened in the end. I prayed for their families. Later in the day, I watched in horror again as people in Pakistan celebrated our tragedy. I wondered about this hatred. What had we done as a nation to breed this animosity? How could children be laughing?

That night, I was videotaping Patrick with the news blaring in the background. He was 2 months old. I wondered about the tragedies he would witness in his lifetime. I prayed for his future. I prayed for our nation’s leaders. I prayed for the victim’s families. In the days that followed, it was so terribly sad to watch the people of NYC looking for their loved ones. I hurt for them. I know how deeply this tragedy affected me. I cannot even begin to imagine the grief that those affected personally by this day encountered. My God bless them. May God bless the families of our fallen soldiers that are fighting for our freedom. May we not forget.
