Monster Virus

Tuesday morning I woke up with the worst headache ever. It reminded me of a spinal headache I once had a long time ago after a spinal tap. Anyways, I thought it was mucso-skelatal, so I went to the chiropractor. I had relief for about 5 minutes and then it came back worse than before. I felt like I needed to go to the ER, but with 2 kids and my parents out of town, I quickly put that idea away. Later came the nausea and fever. I went to bed when Chuck got home and slept for11 hours. I had a fever Wednesday morning and a mild headache, but improved as the day progressed. About 2:45, the school nurse called and said that Patrick was in her office complaining of a headache and he was crying because his head hurt so bad. On the way to get him, I called our pediatrician and spoke to her nurse (of course my mind always goes to the most extreme diagnosis - meningitis). She assured me that a headache alone does not indicate meningitis and to see if any other symptoms develop before bringing him in to see the doctor. He came home and went straight to bed, woke up at 5 and threw up and went back to bed and slept until 8am this morning.

Flat Stanley & the Obelisk of Buenos Aires

Patrick has a fun class project going on right now about a character in a story named Flat Stanley who is mailed all over the world. All of the kids are mailing their Stanley's to different locations and then when they come back the location will be marked on a map. We sent Patrick's Flat Stanley to my cousin, Sarah, in Buenos Aires. He should be returning home soon.

Unbelievable!!!

Did you catch the game tonight? At 3:14 left in the 4th quarter, after 5 interceptions, I told Chuck, "you know if this were the Cowboys of the mid 90s, they could pull this off". I had all but given up. I had wanted to pray for the Cowboys at family prayer time before the boys went to bed, but I thought how silly that was when there are more important things to pray for. Well at the last moment possible tonight, as silly as it may be, I did pray if it was God's will he would help the Cowboys defy the impossible and HE did. What an awesome game!

Can I Draw You a Picture?

....since our camera is at the bottom of the lake. Patrick fell out of his bed Sunday night and busted his lip and had a bloody nose. I heard the thump and then the crying. It is strange to me that in a sleepy haze I cannot distinguish which child is crying when they are 5 years apart. My first thought was to go to Nicholas room. I was afraid I had left the rail down and he had fallen out. He was sound asleep and I found Chuck and Patrick on the floor in Patrick's room with blood gushing everywhere. This injury would not have been quite so traumatic had I not removed his bunk bed ladder (due to the little climber in our house). I replaced the ladder (where he normally puts his water) with a small stool. The stool is what he fell face first on. Chuck had still been up watching TV and seemed to have things under control, so I snuck back to bed. However, Patrick's lip was a swollen mess on Monday.

In other news, I asked Patrick what he learned in school the other day and he said "vertical equations". It took his not so sharp mother a minute to figure that one out. He also told me that the kids in his class thought the story he wrote about the boat sinking in writers workshop was fiction but it wasn't fiction it was non-fiction. I am impressed with all of the things he is learning in first grade.

We are off today to see Grandma & Jack and then to the ranch to see the cousins and have a sleep over again at my grandmother's old house. I am hoping for peaceful travels. So glad we have Baby Einstein DVDs and that Patrick will give up his movie time in the car to keep Nicholas happy.
