Feeling Better

I had some blood work done and found out that am anemic. I am low in vitamin B-12 and folate as well as iron. This and low vitamin D is leading to my fatigue. I have been tired most of my life. I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome when I was in jr. high, but I am not sure it still applies. I have been taking vitamin D supplements and a multi vitamin. I am going to talk to my doctor about how much of the other three I need to be on. Another doctor has put me on this new drug Nuvigil. It is a new drug for people with narcolepsy. They also use it for jet lag, CFS and Fibromyalgia. It has been working great. I was jittery the first couple of days, but I am better now. I actually feel like I have energy to go through the day. My mind is alert and the brain fog is gone. I worked out so hard the other day at the Y that I can barely walk up the stairs. I have felt so bad about myself through the years for not finishing college and having a career...for not being a 'super' mom (you know the ones with the home business, making it to every story hour and play date, always making the cute keepsakes that everyone loves, running their house like a business). While I would like to be like that, I am not going to beat myself up anymore for not being that way. I am just going to keep doing the best I can. My kids know they are loved. I have to feel that a lot of these problems I have had over the years are not all my fault. Perhaps I am really not lazy and unmotivated. Maybe it is a brain chemistry thing. I don't like making excuses and not taking responsibility for my actions, but this fatigue I have been dealing with my whole life has been so hard.

In other news, Nicholas is really liking pre-school. On days that he stays home (Mon & Fri), he wants to go. He is learning to recognize his ABC's and ask what words start with. As I type this, he is telling me that he lost Montana (he is working on a USA puzzle). He has learned a lot of great songs and sings them when he is at home. He is also learning Bible stories, too. They focus on one each week, so we read about it at home as well. He is also eagerly trying to write his letters and learning spanish. He is really into counting lately and wants to play board games. For instance he will draw and "11" card in Sorry and then count 1-23 and then say 11. He says the funniest things and keeps us laughing...

N: "Dad, what does your popsicle taste like?"

C: "Mine taste like cherry, what does yours taste like?"

N: "Mine tastes like babies"

That is not something Patrick has ever said. He is just funny that way.

Patrick brought home his progress report. He is dong great in math. Kumon has done wonders for his confidence and speed. We are still working on comprehension. For being such a mellow little boy, I had no idea that he would be this stubborn later on. Homework is still a challenge (funny, except when Chuck is home). I feel like the kids are in control of me sometimes. I have got to stop being so soft.

Chuck's boss is transferring to Beirut. They are not promoting Chuck to Exec Chef here (his company is big on moving for F&B managers to keep ideas fresh). He will be 'acting' Exec. Chef and his current title of Executive Sous Chef. They had 8 on their management team when we moved here and now they are down to 4. It is going to be a big job for him, but I know he will do well because he always does. We may not see him a lot, but we will be ok. He will still be off 2 days a week. It will be good for his resume and when the economy picks up it will help him be promoted.
